After spending time in the Marketplace, you can relax in the Reading Room with your books or order books from the bookBot. Speak with a librarian about ordering books, or choose from the touch screen catalog.

The majority of the collection not featured in the marketplace or special collection levels are kept in the bookBot, an automated book retrieval system. The bookBot is the core of the library, holding up the library.

As you ride up the elevator to the Reading Room, other titles pop up that you can request. Current events in the library or more information about vendors appears too.

Biblioscape: The New Public Library.

Bilbioscape is a new public library model that activates its collection through the vibrancy of a public market. It is a tactile way to access knowledge through the celebration of books and building social relationships.

This new model for the public library is being set in San Francisco. San Francisco is experiencing an extreme case of hypergentrification. Since 2010, 36,000 people have moved to this 7x7 sq mi. city mostly due to the tech industry.

There has been growing tension and animosity between “techies” and “natives”.

Bilbioscape for the SFPL can service both old and new San Franciscans as an equalizer.
